The BMF (Bundesministerium der Finanzen) has announced its intention to release a discussion paper in April regarding the implementation of compulsory e-invoicing.
This move comes after the new coalition government pledged to introduce a digital reporting system in 2022 to address the VAT Gap.
The ViDA reforms under the EU’s Digital Reporting Requirements framework have proposed compulsory intra-community structured e-invoicing from 2028. Although the specifics of Germany’s e-invoicing system remain unclear, it is expected that they will adopt the EN 16931 standard proposed by ViDA.
